🎤 Rebalancing the music industry through data: our collaboration with The F-List 🎶
Last week, we had the pleasure of presenting our work on Gender Music Metadata as part of a joint session with The F-List for Music, a pioneering feminist organization committed to promoting women and gender-diverse artists across the UK. You can read more about them here:
🟣 At DigitalFems, we believe that tech systems —especially AI and metadata infrastructures— should reflect the full diversity of the music ecosystem. That’s why collaborating with collectives like The F-List, and feminist leaders such as Dr. Metka Potočnik and Vick Bain, is so vital. Their continued advocacy has brought visibility to systemic gender inequalities in copyright, licensing, and representation.
🎵 In our shared presentation, we explored:
- How metadata governs music discoverability, visibility, and remuneration
- Why the absence of gender metadata perpetuates algorithmic exclusion
- How platforms like Spotify continue to recommend ~75% male artists
- Our roadmap for inclusive digital music infrastructures
✨ Together, we’re pushing to make gender visible — not just in stages or playlists, but deep within the code that powers our cultural platforms.

We look forward to building stronger bridges with feminist movements in music — and challenging the systems that silence us.
