PARTICIPATE AND SHARE OUR SURVEY!
At GenderMusicTech.org, we’re on a mission to reduce gender bias in the music industry by addressing the way gender data is handled in digital platforms and music distribution systems. Our research project, led by Cori Chinini, Lorenzo Porcano, and Thais Ruiz de Alda, is focused on creating a technical framework for GenderMetadata that will enable music systems to account for gender diversity in their algorithms and data processes.
Why is this important? Currently, many algorithms used by streaming platforms and digital distribution systems do not take gender metadata into account, which can lead to biased recommendations and unequal visibility for women and gender-diverse individuals. This doesn’t just impact popularity—it shapes who gets to participate in digital music culture.
We need your help!
We’ve launched a survey to gather insights from key industry professionals, including:
- Technical roles at streaming platforms
- Metadata managers in digital distribution
- Artists, labels, and artist managers
Your input will help us map how gender metadata is currently used and where improvements can be made. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a more inclusive future for music.
How can you support?
- Take the survey if you work in the music industry and your role fits the description.
- Share the survey with your network—especially with professionals working in tech roles, digital distribution, or artist representation. Every voice counts in this vital research.
👉 Take the survey now and be part of the change!
Together, we can create a music industry that is fairer and more inclusive for everyone.
Thank you for your support in shaping the future of music.
